Significant casualties reported as armed individuals perish in southern Somalia
Over 20 Al-Shabab Militants Killed in Southern Somalia
In a significant development, the Somali National Army’s elite force, Gorgor, successfully neutralized more than 20 al-Shabab militants during a fierce confrontation at a military base in the Awdheegle district of southern Somalia. This operation resulted in multiple casualties among the militants, while the brave troops of the SNA swiftly responded to and foiled the attack.
Abdirahman Yusuf Al-adala, the Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, emphasized the proactive nature of the Somali forces in confronting the terrorists. He reported that the SNA reacted promptly to the attempted assault by al-Shabab fighters on the Awdheegle district army base. The aftermath of the operation witnessed the discovery of over 20 deceased terrorists and the recovery of their weapons.
Although there is no confirmation on any SNA casualties during the intense combat, al-Shabab militants have claimed responsibility for the attack. However, it is common for this al-Qaida affiliated terrorist group to exaggerate casualty figures in their confrontation with government security forces. Despite the intensified efforts of the security forces and their allied counterparts to combat the militants in Somalia, these attacks persist throughout the country.
