In a noteworthy development, the President of Galmudug Regional State, Ahmed Abdi Kariye, made a visit to the strategic town of El-Garas in the Galgadud region. Accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor, and the Chief of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Mahad Mohamed Salad, President Kariye’s visit signifies a strong stance against insurgent forces.
The town of El-Garas was successfully recaptured by government forces, aided by local militia, without encountering any resistance. Situated merely 40 km away from the historic district of El-bur, this achievement has received praise from both federal and regional authorities.
President Ahmed Abdi Kariye emphasized the continuation of military operations until the insurgent group is entirely eliminated, underlining the commitment to establishing lasting peace in the region.
Unfortunately, amidst this progress, a tragic incident occurred on Monday. Two Galmudug lawmakers and a civilian lost their lives in a roadside explosion while visiting the troops who had liberated the town from al-Shabab. MP Mohamed Mohamud Ahmed (Mohamed Yare), a member of the Galmudug Parliament, and Abdullahi Ibrahim Shaaciye, a member of the Dhusamareb Local Council, were among the victims of this deplorable incident.
El-Garas, a small town that had remained under the control of al-Shabab for several decades, lies on the route between Dhusamareb and El-bur. Its recapture by government and local forces signifies a significant step toward regaining control of the El-bur district.
