Ramos poised for an emotional comeback to his childhood team, Sevilla
Veteran former Spanish defender Sergio Ramos announced on Monday that he is making a remarkable return to his hometown club, Sevilla, after being away for 18 years.
“It’s a truly special day for me. Returning home always brings immense joy. Now, I have to undergo a medical examination. I’m thrilled to be back and eager to make a contribution as soon as possible, which is the most important thing,” expressed Ramos, aged 37, to the media.

Sevilla finds themselves at the bottom of La Liga without a single point after three matches. However, as champions of the Europa League, they have secured a place in the group stage of the Champions League. Their campaign will commence on September 20th.
Ramos had left Sevilla at the young age of 19 to join Real Madrid, for which he became the most expensive Spanish defender at the time. In 2021, he signed with Paris Saint-Germain but has been without a club since his contract expired with the French champions in June.
According to local reports, Ramos had received an attractive offer from Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. He stated, “I was eager to come back home. It made no sense to go anywhere else without passing through here,” referring to his birthplace on the outskirts of Seville.
During his 16 seasons at the Bernabeu, Ramos achieved considerable success, winning La Liga five times, the Champions League four times, and the Copa del Rey four times.
Internationally, he represented Spain in 180 matches, scoring 23 goals. Ramos was part of the squad that triumphed in the European Championship twice (2008 and 2012) and lifted the World Cup in 2010 in South Africa.
