Puntland: Court delivers death sentences to two individuals convicted of murdering a young woman

In a ruling made on Sunday, a court in the Galkayo district of the Mudug region has sentenced two men to the death penalty for the murder of a young woman earlier this year.

The victim, Nacimo Abdiweli Osman, who was only 16 years old, was killed by her 22-year-old husband, Liban Mohamed Yusuf, with the assistance of the second convicted individual, Jama Mohamed Yusuf, aged 20.

The motive behind the killing was reportedly the victim’s refusal to continue living with her husband, as she had expressed her desire for a divorce.

This horrific incident took place in the Darussalam area of the Galdogob district in the Mudug region, specifically on the night of April 18, 2023. The court concluded that the victim was fatally attacked with a knife, and evidence pointed to the involvement of these two individuals in the crime.

The judicial panel has granted a one-month period for the defendants to pursue an appeal.
