“President Museveni Vehemently Exclaims Al Shabaab’s Actions Will Spur Regretful Repercussions!”
On a fateful day of Sunday May 28, 2023, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was shell-shocked by the Al-Shabaab militants’ onslaught on Ugandan soldiers stationed in South of Mogadishu in Bulo-Mareer, Somalia. The President gave a statement on social media to express his utmost concern about the attack. His statement was dripping with urgency and perturbed caution while reprimanding the lack of preparedness in missions of this nature.
President Museveni recounted the appalling incident that occurred in the night of Thursday, at the 11th hour and ten minutes – which Europeans refer to as 5.30 AM of Friday. He emphasized the successful operations of Ugandan troops in Somalia since 2007 but lamented the unwarranted destruction of the forward operational base (FOB) by the Al-Shabaab. The FOB was manned by Ugandan soldiers, and they lost equipment to the onslaught.

The grandiose President expressed the dismay he felt about the panicked reaction of some soldiers during the invasion. According to him, their disorganization during the attack was unnecessary as the troops had neutralized the threat. He explained that the anti-tank ditch, coupled with the tactical efficiency of the soldiers, had destroyed three vehicles of explosives outside the FOB. However, the bombers forced themselves to detonate before they could enter the base. President Museveni expressed his heartfelt sorrow that the situation was a missed opportunity to wipe out the Al-Shabaab. He savored the prospect that they would end up regretting their actions while displaying his characteristic belligerence.
Furthermore, the President extended his condolences to the bereaved families of the slain soldiers. He reiterated that troops on missions such as this are in a combat situation and not a welfare mission. He called out the Ministry of Defence to take swift action in response to the attack. To ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident, a team of UPDF officers led by the commander of land forces Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga was dispatched on an investigative mission. The Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) initiated a Board of Inquiry (BOI) investigation to uncover the full details of the incident, including casualty figures. In conclusion, Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.
