Mogadishu (AX) – Somali law enforcement authorities have captured a suspected member of al-Shabab believed to have murdered a businessman, who happened to be the brother of South West Minister of Justice and former governor of the Lower Shabelle region, Ibrahim Aden Ali Najah.
The incident took place on Friday, when armed individuals targeted Isak Aden Ali shortly after he left a mosque in Mogadishu’s Hodan district, specifically in the Taleh neighborhood. The suspect attempted to flee but was shot and injured during the pursuit.
“On 11/08/2023, at approximately 1:30 pm, the Banadir Region’s General Division Command, specifically the Hodan district police station, apprehended the individual whose image had been circulating on social media. This person is responsible for the murder of the Somali businessman and will face legal consequences,” stated the command in an official statement.
No entity has claimed responsibility for the attack. Nonetheless, it is not uncommon for al-Shabab militants to carry out such acts of violence against individuals in the business, government, and security sectors.
