Niger’s military leaders have expressed their approval of France’s decision to withdraw its troops from the country by the end of the year, seeing it as a significant step towards sovereignty. French President Emmanuel Macron recently announced that the French ambassador and military contingent would be withdrawn from Niger in the coming months. In response, the military rulers in Niger, who came to power in late July after overthrowing President Mohamed Bazoum, issued a statement celebrating this decision as a historic moment that symbolizes the determination and will of the Nigerien people. Additionally, the aviation safety regulatory body in Africa, ASECNA, had announced earlier that the military leaders had imposed a ban on “French aircraft” from using Niger’s airspace. The news was relayed by AFP.
