"miraculously Enduring Soldiers Bounce Back From Al Shabaab Assault On Updf Base In Somalia"

The aftermath of the gruesome attack on a UPDF forward operating base in Somalia by Al Shabaab militants has left survivors in a state of gradual but steady recovery, as authorities have stated. The force commander, Lt Gen Sam Okiding visited the wounded soldiers at ATMIS Level two hospital in Mogadishu alongside other high-ranking officials including the head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira.

In the attack that happened last week, Al Shabaab militants suddenly attacked the Buulo Mareer base, causing intense fighting between them and the UPDF. The militants eventually overran the base and took some of the soldiers as prisoners of war while some others, including Ugandan soldiers, unfortunately lost their lives.

The UPDF commander of the Land Forces, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, and the Somali National Army(SNA) CDF, Gen Odowaa Yusuf Rageh have now put measures in place by agreeing to implement a curfew on the highway from Afgoye to Barawe in lower Shabelle region. This is aimed at preventing the militants from using Vehicle Borne Improvised Devices for their attacks and will also include stopping the movement of vehicles and motorcycles at night. The specifics were that commanders on the ground would work with local leaders to enforce this measure.
