“Is Messi coming back? He’s amazing, but I’m totally clueless!”
The Barcelona midfield maestro, Frenkie de Jong, has recently taken to ‘Ziggo Sport Voetbal’ to share his thoughts on his relationship with club president Laporta, as well as giving an insight into the potential return of footballing icon, Leo Messi, to his beloved hometown club.
During the interview, de Jong confirmed that his connection with Laporta is in good standing, stating that he has “never been bad with him”, highlighting that despite any issues the club may have faced in the past, their relationship remains unchanged.

De Jong’s involvement with the Catalan giants has been a key factor in their recent success, and with his contract extending until 2026, it’s clear he’ll be a crucial member of the side for the foreseeable future. This season alone, he has featured in over 30 matches for the reigning La Liga champions.
As Real Sociedad prepares to face off against Barcelona, the team is hotly anticipating the trophy presentation after the game, and it appears that de Jong will be a central figure in the celebration.
With speculation rife about Messi’s future and a potential return to Barcelona, Frenkie gave no clear indication as to whether or not the Argentine ace would resurface at the club. The Dutchman admitted that Messi is a “fantastic” player but was non-committal when asked about rumours linking Messi with a move back to Camp Nou.
Despite any enthusiasm for Messi’s possible homecoming, it should be noted that Barcelona is undergoing a strict financial audit, which has put their financial viability under scrutiny by La Liga officials. Consequently, they may struggle to afford the World Cup-winning forward.
With all this said, only time will tell if Messi will play another game in a Blaugrana jersey.
