Investigation into Trade Between Barca and Valencia Leaves Many Perplexed and Bursting with Questions in the English-speaking World
Reportedly, there is yet another issue that has come knocking on the door of the newly-crowned La Liga champions, Barcelona. As per ‘Mundo Deportivo’, an investigation has been launched into the trade of goalkeepers, Jasper Cillessen and Neto Murara back in 2019. The sale of Cillessen allegedly brought in a whopping 35 million euros for the Catalan side while Valencia received just 26 million for Neto, with the deal reported to have been made to “distort the balance sheet of both sports entities” in an attempt to lessen the losses. The complaint was lodged by former Valencia vice-president, Miguel Zorio, in January, and now, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated pre-trial investigation proceedings. It is one of the newest investigations that Barcelona is facing this season, with the club also being investigated over the ‘Negreira case’, which involved them paying 1.4 million euros to DASNIL 95, a company belonging to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira. Moreover, Barcelona was recently fined 15.7 million euros by the Spanish tax authorities for irregularities in the payments made to players.
