“Important Considerations When Receiving a Call from Madrid” – Kepa
The new goalkeeper for Real Madrid recently spoke about his move to the Spanish club. Kepa, who is currently representing the Spanish national team, expressed how difficult it is to refuse an offer from Madrid.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has embraced the incredible opportunity that has come his way. This talented Spanish goalkeeper received a call from Real Madrid, who needed a replacement for Thibaut Courtois this summer.
During the ‘La Roja’ training camp, the former Athletic player opened up about his signing for Real Madrid. “When they reach out to you, there are only a few things to consider,” Kepa told the Spanish media.
“Pochettino wanted me to stay at Chelsea and assured me that I would be playing, expressing his confidence in me. However, I believed that a change would be beneficial for my career. I desired a fresh start.”
Back in 2018, Kepa was on the verge of joining Real Madrid, but ultimately ended up at Chelsea. “I didn’t intentionally put myself in that situation. It happened quickly, and I had to make rapid decisions.”
The former Chelsea goalkeeper also had the opportunity to go to Bayern Munich. Thomas Tuchel approached Kepa, and he was close to joining the German club. However, the injury to Thibaut Courtois opened the door for him to play for Real Madrid in La Liga.
“The goalkeeper position is unique. Typically, one of us plays, and we spend a considerable amount of time together, working alongside the goalkeeper coach. I have always maintained a good relationship with them, whether I was on the pitch or not.”
“Healthy competition within the team motivates us to bring out our best versions,” added the 28-year-old keeper, reflecting on his camaraderie with his teammate Andriy Lunin.
“I have faced Real Madrid three times with Chelsea. Whenever I arrived at the Bernabeu, I would always turn left towards the away dressing room, but deep down, I wanted to turn right into the home dressing room!” exclaimed the young star goalkeeper of the “Merengues.”
