Mogadishu (AX) – Somalia’s police chief was fired on Thursday following a unanimous choice by Somalia’s cupboard. General Abdi Hassan Hijar was fired after main Somalia’s police pressure since 2019. His successor, General Sulub Ahmed Firn, formally took over on Friday.

Prior to his appointment, General Ahmed had been the Federal Assistant Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation.

The high-level safety mix-up got here days after Al Shabaab attacked the Banadir Regional Administration headquarters, which homes the Mogadishu mayor’s workplace, killing not less than six individuals.

Somalia has launched a navy offensive in opposition to the Al Qaeda-linked militant rebel group Al Shabaab, backed by clan militias and US drone strikes.
