Several dead after landslides in Cameroon

A landslide in Cameroon’s capital Yaounde on Sunday killed at the very least 11 individuals who had gathered to mourn the demise of a number of relations, the regional governor advised state broadcaster CRTV.

“The search continues to find other bodies underground,” Naseri Paul Bea, governor of the Heart area that features Yaounde, advised CRTV radio.

The folks had gathered to mourn members of their households who had died, Governor Bea advised CRTV.

By early Sunday night, police pickup vans have been eradicating our bodies coated in white sheets, an AFP correspondent on the scene reported.

Emergency companies scrambled to the scene, whereas tons of of native folks frantically looked for family members. Some folks within the crowd cried as emergency employees searched the scene.

The catastrophe occurred within the working-class district of Damas, on the jap outskirts of the capital.

Residents advised AFP that a number of households had gathered underneath massive tents on abandoned hilltop land when a part of the bottom beneath them gave approach.

An AFP correspondent noticed 4 massive white tents on high of the hill, on the sting of what seemed to be a ridge, past which the bottom had disappeared.

A police cordon prevented journalists from getting nearer to the accident website.
