Confounding! Senior al-Shabab finance official met with demise by Government forces in an outburst of violence.

On this fateful date of Sunday May 21, 2023, Mogadishu (AX) was in a state of turmoil and confusion as the Somali government forces conducted an anti-al Shabab operation that ended in the apprehension of Mahad Agadub, the al Shabab head of Zakawat. The operation took place in Towfiq, a town located 15 kilometres north of the Gal’ad district. According to reports by Somali National Television, the al-Shabab militants attacked the advancing army, leading Agadub to attempt to escape. However, he ran approximately 3 kilometres before suffering a heart attack and dying from a bullet that hit him.

The Somali army is currently holding four other members of al Shabab who will be brought to justice for their involvement with the militant group. The killing of Mahad Agadub marks a significant milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to combat al-Shabab and restore regional security. Last week, the country’s Information Ministry reported that at least 44 al-Shabaab terrorists were killed in a security operation in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region. This operation was conducted by the national intelligence and security agency along with Somalia’s international partners on the outskirts of Kurtowarey, a small town located 208 kilometres (229 miles) southwest of the nation’s capital Mogadishu.
