Confirmed: Doku joins Man City as their third addition
Jeremy Doku has completed his move to Manchester City, leaving Ligue 1 team Stade Rennais in a deal worth £55 million. The English club made the announcement on Thursday, confirming the transfer of the 21-year-old winger. Doku expressed his excitement, stating that this is a significant day for him personally and professionally. He acknowledged Manchester City as the top team in world football and considers joining them as a remarkable opportunity for himself and his family. Doku shared his enthusiasm for learning and improving as a young player, expressing confidence that working with Pep Guardiola and the team’s talented players will greatly enhance his abilities.
During his time at Rennes, Doku demonstrated his talent by scoring 12 goals in 92 appearances. Prior to joining the French club, he rose to prominence as a teenager with Anderlecht in his home country. Manchester City’s acquisition of Doku follows their previous signings, Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol, as they continue to strengthen their squad.
With Riyad Mahrez’s departure, Manchester City sought a replacement winger, resulting in the move for Doku. Additionally, the club is expected to secure a midfielder before the transfer window closes on September 1st, to compensate for the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, who will be sidelined for up to four months due to a hamstring injury. Matheus Nunes from Wolves and Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace are among the potential targets, following the collapse of negotiations for Lucas Paqueta from West Ham. The potential deal fell through due to a Football Association investigation into a possible violation of betting regulations by the Brazilian player.
