Cancelo considers allowing Marcos Alonso to depart Barcelona for Manchester United
There is a possibility that Marcos Alonso could leave Barcelona this summer. According to ‘Mundo Deportivo’, Xavi Hernandez believes that Joao Cancelo can play as a left-back, along with Inigo Martinez and Sergi Roberto, which may render Marcos Alonso unnecessary for the team.
Recently, Manchester United has expressed interest in signing Marcos Alonso as a replacement for the injured Luke Shaw, who may be sidelined for an extended period due to a thigh problem.
Reportedly, Barcelona has finalized a loan deal with Manchester City for the arrival of Joao Cancelo, who is versatile and can play on both the left and right sides of the field, as demonstrated under Pep Guardiola.
Therefore, Xavi now has three outstanding options in the left-back position: Sergi Roberto, Inigo Martinez, and Joao Cancelo, making Marcos Alonso surplus to the requirements of Barcelona.
The sale of Marcos Alonso would not only help ease the financial pressure imposed by the Financial Fair Play regulations but also free up some funds on the club’s wage bill.
