Referendum introduced in South Ossetia

“Anatoly Bibilov has signed a decree to hold a referendum in the Republic of South Ossetia,” an announcement from Bibilov’s workplace mentioned.

The referendum will probably be held on July 17.

During the Five Day War in 2008, Russia entered Georgia and drove its forces from South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Subsequently, each territories declared independence – one thing that has solely been acknowledged by Russia and a number of allies. Russia has since had army bases within the territories and strengthened its affect.

Georgia has beforehand condemned a potential referendum in South Ossetia as unacceptable.

The message from South Ossetia comes because the battle rages within the separatist areas of Donetsk and Lugansk in japanese Ukraine. In the run-up to the February invasion, Russia acknowledged the 2 Ukrainian areas as unbiased individuals’s republics.
