Protesters have stormed the parliament in Iraq

Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadehmi has warned the protesters in a press release that safety forces will keep order and defend authorities buildings and diplomatic missions positioned within the Green Zone.

Shiite nationalist Muqtada al-Sadr’s group is the biggest in parliament. But the demonstrators are protesting the pro-Iranian bloc’s nomination of Mohammed al-Sudani as prime minister.

Iraq was plunged right into a deeper political disaster final month when 73 members of parliament from al-Sadr’s bloc resigned in a bid to finish the impasse on putting in a brand new authorities.
