CHICAGO — Lawyers for R. Kelly have multi week to react to a claim charging sex misuse or face losing the case.
Kelly’s lawyers looked to put the claim on hold while the artist battles sex-related lawful offense accusations. Partner Judge Moira Johnson on Wednesday concurred with attorneys for the lady who recorded the claim that Kelly needs to document a response to the case.
Johnson gave Kelly’s legal advisors until June 26 to react to the claim in Cook Province.
Kelly did not go to Wednesday’s hearing in Chicago.
After the consultation, the lawyers for the lady said they expect the claim will be postponed while the criminal case continues. Nonetheless, they said it was inappropriate for Kelly’s lawyers to look for a postponement under the steady gaze of recognizing the claim.
The lady who brought the claim is one of four ladies Kelly is accused of explicitly mishandling.
