“We talked about it before he signed the contract and I’m just very happy that he’s staying at the club and staying with me,” Van Dijk said of Gomez. “I am also happy for the club that he has signed.

“He is in my opinion [one of] if not the best English centre-back. Obviously we’ve both been very unlucky with the injuries we’ve had. It is clear that his time will come again and hopefully he can show it this season.”
