Vassilev seals Inter Miami loan

Inter Miami have signed American youth international Indiana Vassilev on loan from the English Premier League side Aston Villa.

The midfielder is set to join the US team for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Soccer season, pending receipt of his international transfer certificate.

The American player marks Inter Miami’s first move of the Secondary Transfer Window, which began on Wednesday. His versatility on the pitch gives head coach Phil Neville much-needed options on the attack, as regular Rodolfo Pizarro remains due to injury.

“Indiana is an exciting young talent with a lot of potential,” said Chris Henderson, Inter Miami CF Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director. He is comfortable and confident on the ball and fluent with his movement. We believe this is the right place for Indiana to promote his development and reach his potential. ”

Vassilev first joined the English team at the youth level in 2018 and represented the under 18 and under 21 team. During that time, he scored 11 goals and six assists in 54 games. He finally made his senior debut for Aston Villa in January 2020 after coming off the bench in an FA Cup match against Fulham. He recorded six games for the first team in all competitions last season.

Internationally, the Bulgarian American has represented youth national teams in the United States on several occasions and presented to teams under 16, under 17, under 18 and under 20. In 2017, he led his side to FIFA’s World Cup quarterfinals. That same year, Vassilev played alongside new Inter Miami teammate George Acosta.

Inter Miami is currently in 13th place in the Eastern Conference table after battling injuries and MLS disciplinary fines. Vassilev comes at a crucial moment to help the team by speeding up the offense as Miami has only managed 11 goals so far this season.

Appointed players Gonzalo Higuain and Pizarro are still in doubt in the coming weeks, while Robbie Robinson and Julian Carranza have not yet released an update on their return.
