Uruguay look set to win their first Copa America 2021 victory when they face Chile on Monday in Cuiaba.

La Celeste fell 1-0 to Argentina on Friday in their tournament opener, while Chile have collected four points from their two matches. Should they win a victory against Uruguay, Chile will seal their place in the quarterfinals.

Uruguay’s defeat to Argentina marked their fourth consecutive match without a win in all competitions. Despite standing strong against Argentina and securing a point, Chile’s recent performances remain very inconsistent.

Alexis Sanchez will be the only player missing for Chile’s match against Uruguay at the Copa America 2021. Charles Aranguiz and Arturo Vidal will probably play in midfield after performing well in their previous two tournament matches. At the back, Gary Medel and Guillermo Maripan have both impressed and are expected to maintain their level ahead of rivals Uruguay.

Blackburn Rover forward Ben Brereton Diaz is the player to watch after making his international debut in the match against Argentina and scoring in the 10th minute against Bolivia.

Uruguay’s manager Oscar Tabarez has a perfectly suitable squad to choose from for the match against Chile. The Uruguayan line-up should consist of Manchester United forward Edison Cavani and Atletico Madrid star Luis Suárez. Although the two failed to stand out against Argentina, they will seek revenge against Chile. Nicolas de la Cruz and Facundo Torres will make sure to support the two forwards by keeping their backs safe.

Chile: Bravo; Isla, Medel, Maripan, Mena; Pulgar, Vidal, Aranguiz; Brereton Diaz, Meneses, Vargas

Uruguay: Muslera; Vina, Gimenez, Godin, Gonzalez; Torreira, Valverde, Bentancur, De La Cruz; Cavani, Suarez

Uruguay dominates in the historic record against Chile, having won 46 of a total of 82 matches played between the two teams. La Roja have only recorded 19 victories against Uruguay, but currently have a stronger record outside their history.

The two have not drawn in their last eight matches, Uruguay won five and Chile three. Their last match took place in October 2020, where Uruguay won 2-1 with an initial goal from Luis Suarez.

Despite their historic record, Uruguay have struggled to dominate matches recently. Their attack may include Cavani and Suarez, but the two have failed to score in any definitive way in Uruguay’s last five matches. While Chile’s Copa America run is successful right now, the team is historically freezing against rivals Uruguay.

Prediction: 1-1
