Tonali Poised for August Comeback Following FA’s Two-Month Suspension Ruling

Newcastle United will have Sandro Tonali back in action late August as he received a two-month suspended ban from the Football Association for breaching gambling rules. This sanction enables the midfielder to play on August 27, 2024, marking the end of his 10-month suspension imposed by the Italian Football Federation. FIFA accepted this ban globally following Tonali’s admission of betting on matches in an investigation on illicit betting portals in Italy. Sandro faced charges from the FA for violating English football’s gambling regulations 50 times between August and October last year, sparking concerns about a prolonged absence from the sport. Fortunately, the FA decided to suspend Tonali’s penalty for the entire 2024-25 season, allowing him to return in August without further offenses. Newcastle issued a statement disclosing Tonali’s suspension and a £20,000 fine, emphasizing his significant contribution to the investigation. Sandro remains committed to therapy and education with the club’s backing while training alongside his teammates. Despite restrictions, Tonali managed only eight appearances in the Premier League since his move from Milan in a £55 million transfer, also missing Italy’s Euro 2024 tournament.
