The last challengers who became Tottenham’s new head coach
There are two Daniel Levys that have been in the headlines in recent years – one created Schitt’s Creek, and the other is stuck in it.
I’m here all week.

Tottenham’s miserable attempt to replace Jose Mourinho has now been going on for more than two months. Mauricio Pochettino wanted the job, and then he did not. Antonio Conte wanted the job and then he did not. Paulo Fonseca thought he had the job, and then he did not. Gennaro Gattuso thought he had the job, and then his racist, sexist and homophobic comments resurfaced, and he did not.
For all of Levy’s shortcomings, he used to be at least a sharp businessman in the lively football world, but he is no longer even. Spurs players are just over a week away from returning to training before the season and no one knows who the new boss will be.
Spurs are now talking to people in the 25-30 class, so please come online to book your slot machine.

The clock is ticking – who are the last remaining candidates to take this seemingly damned job?
Potter has won the Swedish Cup before. Winning mentality and all that. / Mike Hewitt / Getty Images
Philosophy: Collect expected goals and then take them in as if there is money in the bankYouth integration: Known for being open to itMedal features: He has handled Ostersunds, Swansea and Brighton, what do you think?
Hiring Potter would be the kind of game that Tottenham would definitely do in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but they have developed as a club at the time – they still do not win much but at least they get the Super League- invitations.

Ten Hag has made Ajax a force again / BSR Agency / Getty Images
Philosophy: Yes.Youth integration: Yes.Medal features: Yes.
One of the many, many problems with Spurs’ very public pursuit of Pochettino and Conte is that it makes all other meetings look pathetic in comparison. But if Ten Hag is in the excavation comes the end of summer, it would be seen as a great success.

Southgate’s only club-level managerial experience came with Middlesbrough / Robin Jones / Getty Images
Philosophy: 1-0 to Eng-er-landYouth integration: Has “previously under 21-year-old boss” on his CVMedal features: Depending on when football comes home
Southgate’s relative success in charge of England’s senior team has made many forget how hopeless he is at club level. Sure, he may have changed, but it’s not worth Spurs time to make that game.
Suitability assessment: 4/10Probability: 4/10
Martinez has saved his leading stock in the Belgian job / Isosport / MB Media / Getty Images
Philosophy: If you can avoid a wrench, you can avoid an opposition cornerYouth integration: Insists on playing 47-year-old Thomas VermaelenMedal features: Won a top-level trophy recently than Spurs
Roberto Martinez was hated by Everton fans almost as quickly as he was loved – which sounds perfect for a club like Spurs.
Suitability assessment: 6/10Probability: 5/10
Valverde was not popular in Barcelona, which fell off a cliff after his departure / GIUSEPPE CACACE / Getty Images
Philosophy: “The worse Barcelona do, the better I look”Youth integration: Known enemy of La MasiaMedal features: Overqualified
Spurs recently announced that former Juventus boss Fabio Paratici would take over as sporting director from July 1, and it was assumed that he would reach out to more notable candidates. Valverde fits that shape and is mature and waiting for another chance at a decent sized club.

He has won a trophy / Claudio Villa / Getty Images
Philosophy: A 30-page dissertation entitled ‘The football I would like’ (seriously)Youth integration: Was responsible for the Juventus youth team for nine daysMedal features: Two golds in one season
If Paratici insists on sticking to what he knows (calcio), then Pirlo is a calculated risk that would be right up his alley again. The World Cup winner can withstand a mixed first season in the lead with Juventus and would suit Spurs nicely.
Suitability assessment: 7/10Probability: 7/10
Galtier left Lille as title winner / John Berry / Getty Images
Philosophy: Radiates Mauricio PochettinoYouth integration: Little won Ligue 1 with an average age of 17 [citation needed]Medal features: Impressive for a guy who has only managed Saint-Etienne and Lille
Of all the candidates on this list, Galtier is the most suitable (next to Ten Hag). After conquering France with Lille, a move to Spurs would be the natural next development point in his career, especially after a move to domestic rivals Lyon fell through.
Suitability assessment: 9/10Probability: 7/10
Benitez offers lots of experience / Alex Broadway / Getty Images
Philosophy: ‘I can’t possibly do more than this’Youth integration: When it fitsMedal features: Collects dust but still abundant
If you threw this idea at Spurs fans, you would say that Benitez is a less extreme Mourinho whose philosophy is similar to Pochettino’s if he trained in the early 2000s. Yes, not good, right?
Suitability assessment: 6/10Probability: 5/10
Nuno was respected by everyone at Wolves / Marc Atkins / Getty Images
Philosophy: Homer Simpson’s boxing tacticYouth integration: Had an older squad with about 12 players last year, it was put on himMedal features: Does a championship medal count?
If all else fails, Nuno would at least keep Spurs relevant and in the six big discussions. Although football would be awful to watch – at least Son Heung-min and Harry Kane could be his new Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez.
Suitability assessment: 6/10Probability: 6/10
A Man of the People / Clive Rose / Getty Images
Philosophy: TOP 5 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR CHANTS (HD)Youth integration: He’s a product of that, yesMedal features: Lost 100% of his cup final
The ultimate “we tried, but failed” move would be to make Mason the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history. And it becomes a more likely opportunity with each passing day.
Suitability assessment: 4/10Probability: 5/10
