Shaw Rues Playing While Injured at Man Utd: Euro 2024 Prospects in Jeopardy

Despite being sidelined since February, Luke Shaw has snagged a spot on Gareth Southgate’s roster for Euro 2024. Shaw, still on the mend from an injury during a match for Manchester United against Luton Town, acknowledges the gamble of that game time. “If the skipper gives me the nod, I’ll lace up, but that game was a misstep,” Shaw confessed. He blames both the medical team and himself, adding, “I hastened my comeback, wound up straining my hamstring further. Yet, I strained every sinew to return for United.”

The choice to include Shaw has sparked some murmurings given that his teammate Harry Maguire, out of play since April due to an ailment, didn’t make the team. Shaw’s fitness for the opening match against Serbia on June 16 remains up in the air. “It’s not my call. We’re taking it day by day to see how I hold up in training,” he explained. He’s eager to step onto the pitch but cautious, “A speedy return could end my run prematurely. That’s a risk I can’t take.”

England is also slated to clash with Denmark and Slovenia in their group during the tournament.
