Shaw injury deals blow to Man City’s championship aspirations

Manchester City’s championship aspirations suffered a setback when Khadija Shaw was sidelined for the rest of the season due to a foot injury.

Shaw leads the Women’s Super League in goals with 21 in 18 games, ahead of Lauren James by eight goals.

She sustained the injury in a 5-0 victory over West Ham, a game where she scored twice, and will miss the rest of the season.

City heavily relied on Shaw’s goals and will feel her absence during the intense final stretch of the WSL season.

Chelsea trails City by three points but has a game in hand, making goal difference crucial.

Gareth Taylor confirmed Shaw’s injury in a press conference before the Bristol City game, acknowledging her stellar season.

City will need to find a replacement for Shaw, but Taylor is optimistic about the team’s depth.

Lauren Hemp signed a three-year contract extension with City, a vital player for the team’s success.

Hemp expressed her commitment to City, thrilled to continue the journey with the club.
