Sergio Ramos leaves Real Madrid this summer

Real Madrid have confirmed that talisman and club captain Sergio Ramos will not sign a new contract and will then leave the club this summer.

Speculation about the Spaniard’s future in Madrid has been circulating for some time, with negotiations on a new deal reportedly refusing to accept a significant pay cut.

A number of clubs have been credited with interest for Ramos if he chooses to leave the Santiago Bernabeu when his contract expires this summer, and the club has now gone to their official website to confirm that he will not renew his deal.

“Real Madrid CF announce that there will be an institutional tribute and farewell with our captain Sergio Ramos tomorrow, Thursday 17 June at 12.30, with the presence of our President Florentino Pérez.

“After that, Sergio Ramos will appear before the media at a telematic press conference.”

The news marks the end of a truly glittering Real Madrid career for Ramos, who has represented Los Blancos since 2005.

After moving from the other La Liga side Sevilla at the age of just 19, Ramos soon established himself in the starting XI and was named captain on the side after Iker Casilla’s move to Porto in 2015.

The Spaniard leaves the Santiago Bernabeu with a stacked medal collection after noting five La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey crowns and an incredible four Champions League crowns since joining the club.

Once Real Madrid has said goodbye to the outgoing Ramos, attention will be focused on where he will play his football next season.

Despite the interest of PSG and United, Serie A side Juventus have emerged as one of the favorites to land the 35-year-old, but it remains to be seen whether the old lady will be willing to pay the astronomical salaries that will undoubtedly be involved in all business.
