Scotland Summons Red Bulls Ace Morgan Following Dykes and Doak’s Withdrawal

Scotland’s squad for Euro 2024 has seen some recent adjustments. Lyndon Dykes and Ben Doak have exited due to injuries. Consequently, Steve Clarke has enlisted Lewis Morgan, a striker currently with New York Red Bulls.

Dykes, playing for Queens Park Rangers, encountered a knee setback last week. Liverpool’s Ben Doak, too, stepped back on Tuesday, plagued by a lingering knee issue since last December.

Following Doak’s exit, Bristol City’s Tommy Conway was summoned. Now, Morgan, a two-year veteran at Red Bulls, also joins the roster.

In the 2024 league play, Morgan has netted nine goals across 16 matches. The Red Bulls, under Sandro Schwarz, rank fourth in the Eastern Conference, trailing the frontrunner Inter Miami by six points. Previously, Morgan earned two caps for Scotland under Alex McLeish in 2018.

This season, Morgan’s tally reaches nine goals from 46 shots, aligning with an expected goals (xG) score of 6.56. His 63.6% big chance conversion rate rivals that of Lionel Messi and surpasses 13 other MLS players this year.

Morgan dazzled with a hat-trick during the Red Bulls’ 4-0 demolition of Miami in March, a match missed by Messi.

Scotland begins their Euro 2024 campaign against Germany in just eight days, with additional matches against Switzerland and Hungary in Group A.
