Sargent shines in star-studded lineup: Pulisic, Balogun, and Adams highlighted in USA’s Copa America roster reveal

The United States is set to host the Copa America this year, and their initial squad was revealed on Monday.

Gregg Berhalter, the coach of the United States, has chosen a 27-man preliminary squad for the Copa America.

Josh Sargent, a forward for Norwich City, has earned a spot on the team after missing out on recent games with Brazil and Colombia.

Due to Sergino Dest’s injury, Shaq Moore from Nashville SC will fill in as the right-back.

The squad also includes established players like Christian Pulisic, Tyler Adams, Matt Turner, Weston McKennie, and Brendan Aaronson.

Folarin Balogun and Haji Wright have also made the roster after opting to play for the United States.

Sargent was chosen to add depth in attack, while Wright will serve primarily as a wide option.

Giovanni Reyna, the Borussia Dortmund attacker on loan at Nottingham Forest, is also part of the squad.

Antonee Robinson from Fulham and Tim Ream have been called up as well.

Notable exclusions from the squad include Zack Steffen, Jesus Ferreira, and Jordan Morris.

Berhalter is looking forward to the opportunity for the team to grow and compete against top-level competition this summer.

The squad will be trimmed after the upcoming friendlies, with the Copa hosts facing Uruguay, Paraguay, and Bolivia in Group C.
