Ravel Morrison completes DC United switch

DC United have signed midfielder Ravel Morrison on a free switch with Targeted Allocation Money (TAM), the membership introduced on Thursday.

Morrison has signed a deal by the 2023 MLS season with a membership choice in 2024, reuniting with former teammate and head coach Wayne Rooney.

The pair each briefly wore Manchester United colours between 2010 and 2012, whereas Rooney managed Morrison for Derby County in 2021/22 – arguably the 29-year-old’s most prolific season to this point with 4 objectives and 4 assists in 36 Championship appearances.

Born in Manchester, Morrison has 13 caps for Jamaica and scored two objectives.

“Wayne worked closely with Ravel during his time as manager of Derby County,” DC United president of soccer operations Dave Kasper stated in a membership press launch. “Ravel is an incredible talent and his ability to create and score goals is impressive. He has played at the highest levels throughout his career and his vision, creativity and ability on the ball will be a great asset for us.”

Morrison has performed for each membership possible throughout a colourful and sometimes controversial profession. Since leaving Man Utd, the midfielder has featured for the likes of West Ham United, Birmingham City and Sheffield United, whereas enjoying overseas with Lazio, Atlas and Östersund.

As a teenager, he was considered top-of-the-line skills Sir Alex Ferguson had ever labored with. Morrison has by no means fulfilled that potential, but when he can produce what he can for DC United, he might get pleasure from actual success in Major League Soccer.
