Mount & Chilwell excluded

England have confirmed that Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount will remain isolated until Tuesday, June 29, after coming into close contact with Scottish midfielder Billy Gilmour, who has tested positive for COVID-19.

Mount and Chilwell were forced into isolation after spending 20 minutes with Chelsea team-mate Gilmour in the tunnel following England’s 0-0 draw with Scotland, after which the young Scot tested positive for the virus.

The two England stars have since tested themselves negatively, but England have confirmed that public health England has recommended that the couple must remain isolated until June 29.

“We can confirm that Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount will have to isolate until next Monday,” a statement read. “This decision has been taken in consultation with England.

“Chilwell and Mount will isolate and train individually in private areas at England’s training base St. George’s Park, with the rest of the squad returning there after tonight’s match against the Czech Republic at Wembley.

“We will continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols and the UEFA Test regime, while remaining in close contact with PHE.

“All of England’s squad and staff had sideways flow tests on Monday and all were negative again, as was the case with Sunday’s UEFA PCR tests before the match. Additional tests will be performed when and when appropriate.

Mount and Chilwell will obviously miss the last Euro 2020 group stage game against the Czech Republic, where England can sail to the top of their group with a victory.

They will also almost certainly miss England’s 16 match. If Gareth Southgate’s men win their group, their first knockout game will be on June 29, the day Mount and Chilwell return to training.

The pair would be available for the quarterfinals, which are scheduled for July 2 and 3.
