Martinez will do “everything possible” to stay at Inter, agent says

Lautaro Martinez’s agent said the forward is not even considering leaving Inter as he prepares to discuss a new contract with the club on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Tottenham amid growing speculation about Harry Kane’s future.

However, Argentina international representative Alejandro Camano quashed those rumors last week and reiterated on Monday that Martinez was eager to reach a deal.

“We will do our best to stay in the Nerazzurri,” Camano told FC Inter News. “Martinez is doing very well at Milan, he has a great relationship with his team-mates and with the new manager [Simone Inzaghi].

“He listened to a lot of things, but in no time he took them seriously: he believes – and we believe – that there is still life at Inter. He believes in the Nerazzurri project.

“He wants to win the Scudetto again with Inter, to play a good Champions League with the Nerazzurri and as I said at the moment, he is not thinking of leaving Italy at all.”

Martinez joined Serie A champions Racing Club in July 2018 and made 132 appearances for the club.

Only Romelu Lukaku’s 60 goals are better ranked for the Nerazzurri during this span than Martinez, who has scored 37 goals and assisted 11 in 100 Serie A games.

Martinez also scored 17 goals in 38 top-level appearances last season, propelling Inter to their first Serie A title in 11 years.

He posted a return of 0.59 goals every 90 minutes in the last campaign, improving his average to 0.51 in 2019-20 and 0.4 in his debut season at San Siro.

Without Lukaku, who joined Chelsea for a record £ 97.5million last week, and under new boss Inzaghi, doubts grew as to whether Martinez would stay.

“No, these are private things between the two of them,” Camano replied when asked about Martinez’s reaction to Lukaku’s departure. ” He did not say anything to me.

Camano says a pay rise is not Martinez’s priority.

“Lautaro is not talking about money, but about football and games,” he continued. “The money depends on your agent.

“At the very most, Martinez can say how happy he is in Milan and in the squad. I can tell you that I think you have to adapt your situation… to the new situation.”

Inter have also reinvested since Lukaku left, bringing in Dutch Euro 2020 star Denzel Dumfries and experienced striker Edin Dzeko from Rome.
