Man Utd transfer news: Medical date for Varane revealed

Raphael Varane will undergo medical treatment at Manchester United and can be announced as their latest signing within a few days.

The Real Madrid defender has been United’s top transfer target since ending his long-running pursuit of Jadon Sancho, but it does not look like this saga will linger for nearly as long.

The 28-year-old is said to have his heart set on going to the Premier League side, where he will work with Harry Maguire in the middle of a scary back line. However, Real have not beaten too much of a fight – Varane wants to leave and is out of contract in a year.

Negotiations have been ongoing for a couple of weeks now, and it was reported on Sunday that an agreement could be announced “within a few hours.” It did not turn out that way; here we are 24 hours later; but it is now a question of when, rather than of.

That really seems to be the case from what Gianluca Di Marzio reports, anyway, as he claims the deal is almost complete.

Di Marzio claims that Varane will arrive in England for a medical treatment, which will take place in the next 48 hours before the announcement is made. An agreement with Real has been reached over a contract of 50 million euros (43 million euros) and personal terms have been struck out with the player.

It follows the news 90 minutes reported on Monday that United are preparing to download two midfielders this summer to clear the way for Varane. In addition to Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly will expect first team minutes next season, as Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones are surplus requirements.

The former is aimed at Newcastle, while Jones can leave a free transfer just to get his significant salaries out of the book.
