Lyons head of recruitment Bruno Cheyrou has admitted Lucas Paqueta may depart the membership this summer season amid rumors of curiosity from Arsenal and Newcastle United.
Paqueta has been linked with a £50m transfer to Newcastle all summer season, whereas Arsenal just lately joined the dialog when sporting director Edu admitted his admiration for the participant.
“I like Paqueta a lot, I’ve been a big fan for a long time, since my time with the Brazil national team,” Edu informed TNT Sports. “He’s had a great season, he was considered the best [overseas] player in the French league.”
Edu moved to calm speculation but Lyon’s Cheyrou has reignited it by admitting the French side are looking to trim their squad this summer.
“We have to reduce the size of the squad,” Cheyrou told a news conference. “Regarding departures, we will analyze the offers on a case-by-case basis, but the finances will be taken into account. We will consider the offers with Jean-Michel Aulas and Vincent Ponsot to make the best decisions. I am here to ensure the best team as possible, but there are other things to consider as well.”
Later requested if Paqueta would particularly be allowed to depart, Cheyrou replied: “We are prepared for every eventuality.”
24-year-old Paqueta has exploded into life with Lyon in current seasons, banishing reminiscences of a tough 18-month spell with AC Milan between January 2019 and the summer season of 2020.
The Brazilian midfielder scored eight objectives and added an additional six assists in Ligue 1 final season, incomes him a spot on the five-man shortlist for the division’s Player of the Year – a contest he in the end misplaced to Kylian Mbappe.
