James Tavernier signs a two-year extension with Rangers

Rangers club captain James Tavernier has signed a two-year contract extension with the Scottish champions of the Premier League.

The right-back has been in star form in this campaign and scored 11 league goals and ten assists when Steven Gerrard’s side steamed up to their first Scottish crown since 2011.

Tavernier’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with a whole host of clubs said to have kept an eye on the 29-year-old. But he has now committed his future to the club until 2024 after signing a new deal at Ibrox.

The club took to its official website to confirm the news and took the time to reflect on the former Wigan man’s fantastic performances this season.

“Rangers are pleased to announce today that captain James Tavernier has signed a new two-year extension to his current contract with the club, which will keep him at Ibrox until the summer of 2024,” the statement read.

“Tavernier has been outstanding for the Rangers so far this season from right back and scored an incredible 17 goals from 41 games for the club.

“He has already earned a place in folklore as captain to lead the club to 55, and he now has the opportunity to build on that legacy with this new long-term contract.”

Tavernier themselves took the opportunity to express their joy at extending their stay at Ibrox and added that their performance this season is just the beginning of the journey.

“I am delighted to extend my contract at this magnificent club,” he said. “As soon as I arrived six years ago, I soon realized how massive this club is.
