I thought I could play with a cigarette in my mouth

Inter Miami striker Gonzalo Higuain revealed that he initially thought Major League Soccer would be easy enough for him to play with a “cigarette” in his mouth.

Gonzalo Higuain first went to Inter Miami 2020 for the club’s inaugural MLS season and quickly became a key man in start XI. The Argentine has played 16 overall games for Inter Miami and scored five goals and three assists. Although he hoped to cross into the league with European experience as an advantage, he recently revealed that was not the case.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, Higuain explained: “I thought I would come here and play with a cigarette in my mouth and instead it’s hard.

“It’s a tough league. I learned it’s similar to Italian football. In Spain and England it’s easier to do well, while in Italy you, if you don’t know the league, suffer.”

Before joining Major League Soccer, Higuain played in Serie A giants Juventus from 2016 to 2020. During his three seasons, the Argentine freight forwarder made 135 matches in total and scored 60 goals in all competitions. Higuain’s number and dominance began to decline as time went on and scored just eight goals in his last season for Juventus.

“I could not find the right determination and calm outside of football,” Higuain added about why he left Serie A.

“I had nothing more to give. A great friend of mine like Buffon said to me, ‘If you no longer feel that fire inside your workout, if you no longer feel the determination to be at high levels, you must go.’ me a lot but it was time to say enough and find joy and fun and new football in a city that surprised me because it was wonderful. “

After his departure in Serie A, Gonzalo Higuain landed at Inter Miami to start his journey with the Major League Soccer’s latest expansion team at the time. The South Florida club is currently in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with just eight points in eight games. Despite head coach Phil Neville’s efforts, Inter Miami have faced a host of challenges that forced a slow start to the season.
