Expansion plans for King Power Stadium

Leicester City have confirmed plans to expand King Power Stadium’s capacity to 40,000 will be revealed in August.

The arena – which opened in 2002 – currently houses 32,261 with the foxes who easily sell out the vast majority of their home matches.

Adding more seats to the stadium has been discussed for some time and now the process has finally begun. According to a club statement, the plans for the expansion will be released in August 2021. They will then be the subject of public consultation during the summer and until the beginning of autumn.

Leicester President Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: “The unveiling of these plans is an important milestone in the long history of Leicester City Football Club, and one that we hope will continue to put our supporters and our community at the heart of its long-term future.

“Through the consultation with our fans, our local community, companies and stakeholders, we hope to achieve something that we can all be proud of for many years to come. It is these conversations that help us communicate our vision to the people in their hearts and take on board the vision of our society to help shape it.

“While this vision is at an early stage, I know we have all expected additional capacity for more Leicester City supporters at King Power Stadium, especially after seven nearly sold-out Premier League seasons.

“The plans to build on the club’s latest growth – with an expansion of the arena as part of an exciting wider venue development – are a wonderful demonstration of the common ambition of both the football club and the city of Leicester. It is a project with the potential to create enormous social values, starting with a significant number of additional jobs for people in the region. We will work with our partners and contractors to ensure that this is a key consideration from construction to long-term operation. ”

The plans were supported by Leicester’s mayor Sir Peter Soulsby, but he acknowledged that there was “a lot of consultation to be done”.

In addition to expanding the stadium’s capacity, it also includes a new retail store, hotel with 220 rooms, an event area and a residential tower.
