Everton sign Matheus Nunes for £ 15 million from Sporting CP

Everton have reached an agreement to sign Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes for a fee of around £ 15 million.

The Toffees have been chasing the Nunes for a while now and saw reports of their interest increase when Nuno Espirito Santo was tipped to become the club’s new manager. The focus is now on Rafa Benitez, but interest in Nunes still remains.

After failing to make an attempt to take out Nunes on loan next season, A Bola claims that Everton have now agreed to meet Sporting’s requirement to take the 22-year-old to Goodison Park this summer and pay £ 15 million in advance with another 1 , £ 5 million in addition.

It is now said that it is only a matter of time before the deal ends, with all the important details already agreed.

Everton have agreed personal terms with Nunes, whose annual salary will jump from £ 170,000 to £ 1m if he moves to Goodison.

2020/21 was Nune’s breakthrough year at Sporting. The 22-year-old Brazilian played 39 games for the Portuguese side, chipping in with three goals and two assists despite not always being a regular starter.

He finished the season with 12 starts in the league, but despite his limited minutes, he seems to have done enough to make big money for Everton.

Should the move go through as expected, Nunes will compete in minutes with Abdoulaye Doucoure as a ball-carrying midfielder. Toffees capitulated over March and April when Doucoure was injured and won only one of his seven matches without him in the squad.

Nune’s role in the squad will be up to the one who gets the nod in the excavation at Goodison. Benitez is believed to be ahead of the queue, but reports elsewhere have linked Roberto Martinez with a return.

Everton are hoping to make a decision soon to give their boss as much time as possible to prepare for the new season, and it looks like Nunes may be the first signing of the winner of the race.
