Dynamic Italy Squad for Euro 2024 Opts for Mobility Over Immobile, Locatelli, and Verratti

Italy’s Euro 2020 triumphant team has only 10 players in the running for a spot in the final squad of the upcoming tournament. Ciro Immobile, Marco Verratti, and Manuel Locatelli are notable absentees from Italy’s preliminary roster for Euro 2024. Luciano Spalletti’s 30-man provisional squad, which will be cut down to 26 after friendly matches against Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina, includes just a handful of players who secured victory in the delayed Euro 2020. Immobile, despite making Spalletti’s initial Italy squad, failed to make the cut for the upcoming competition due to his underwhelming performance this season. Verratti, a key player in the Euro 2020 final, was not selected for the team this time around after switching from Paris Saint-Germain to Al-Arabi. Locatelli, similarly excluded, saw a decline in his role since the last Euros, while his Juventus teammate Nicolo Fagioli, who recently served a ban for breaching gambling regulations, made it to the squad. Italy’s journey in Euro 2024 kicks off against Albania on June 15, followed by matches against Spain and Croatia in Group B. The Azzurri have the opportunity to emulate Spain’s back-to-back Euro triumphs in 2008 and 2012, a feat never achieved by any other team. The 30-man squad comprises a mix of seasoned players and rising talents from various clubs across Italy.
