Christian Fuchs joins the USL side before Charlotte FC’s debut

Charlotte FC player Christian Fuchs will join the USL Championship side Charlotte Independence for the rest of the 2021 season as the MLS expansion team prepares to make its debut in 2022.

The Independence is a second division team participating in the Atlantic Division in the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference. The team started competing in 2015 and has qualified for the conference quarterfinals on three occasions.

“Being able to add a player of Kristian’s caliber and experience to our list is a huge gain for independence,” Independence Jeff Coach Jeff Jeffries said in a statement. “We are very happy to be part of our group.

“In addition to his experience and ability on site, Christian is a perfect professional. His playing quality, experience of top clubs and leadership add enormously to our group. I want to thank Zoran Krneta and the Charlotte FC staff for working with us to get Christian on our list. ”

The defender joined Major League Soccer in June after six years with the Premier League side Leicester City, where he won the league trophy 2015-16 and the FA Cup 2020-21.

We are happy that Christian Fuchs will join us in Charlotte and hang out with @Over dependence to get to know our fan base.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Christian, as a former Premier League winner, to maintain both his fitness and focus in preparation for the start of Charlotte FC’s training ahead of the first season in January 2022,” said Charlotte FC Sports Director Zoran Krneta .

Charlotte FC players Brandt Bronico and Adam Armor will also play for independence for the rest of their 2021 campaign, while midfielders Riley McGree (Birmingham City) and Segio Ruiz (Las Palmas) remain in Europe. When they return from their respective teams, they will join newly appointed head coach Miguel Angel Ramirez for his debut season.
