Belgium’s Technical Director Announces No Late Euro 2024 Call-Up for Courtois

Thibaut Courtois shined in Real Madrid’s recent Champions League victory but is set to miss Euro 2024 with Belgium. Courtois’s absence marks a critical gap in the national team’s lineup, following a notable dispute with the Belgian coach that led to his omission.

The conflict arose when Courtois exited the team after a disagreement over leadership roles. His spat followed his non-selection as team captain, a role he aspired to fill after Eden Hazard hung up his boots.

Meanwhile, Belgium’s squad now features Koen Casteels, Thomas Kaminski, and Matz Sels as gatekeepers for the event in Germany. These selections come as the Red Devils prepare to contend against Romania, Ukraine, and Slovakia in Group E.

Franck Vercauteren, Belgium’s technical director, confirmed there’s no revisiting Courtois’s exclusion. Nonetheless, Courtois’s national team career isn’t sealed off just yet.

Vercauteren stressed the importance of resolving internal clashes within the team. “It’s crucial we iron out these issues moving forward,” he explained.

At the celebratory scenes in Wembley, Courtois’s father, Thierry, watched proudly. He expressed hope for a resolution to the rift affecting his son’s international play. “May the issues be resolved soon,” he wished.
