Belgium’s Star Right-Back Meunier Faces Injury Uncertainty Ahead of Euro 2024

Belgium has ruled out full-back Thomas Meunier from joining the squad in Germany this Wednesday. His participation at Euro 2024 now hangs in the balance.

Meunier, a veteran with 66 appearances for Belgium’s senior team, has been a fixture in the last four major tournaments after not making the 2014 World Cup roster.

He found the back of the net during a 2-0 victory over England at the 2018 World Cup and during a solid 3-0 triumph over Russia at Euro 2020.

The 32-year-old recently transferred from Borussia Dortmund to Trabzonspor. He missed Domenico Tedesco’s side clinching a 3-0 friendly win against Luxembourg on Saturday due to his muscle injury.

A recent announcement from the Royal Belgian Football Association on social media stated: “Due to a muscle injury, Thomas Meunier will not join the squad traveling to Germany this Wednesday. Further examinations are scheduled in the coming days. We are all rooting for a swift recovery.”

Belgium kicks off their Group E matches on June 17 against Slovakia, followed by games against Romania and Ukraine.
