Austin FC signed Argentine forward Sebastian Driussi on a Designated Player contract, the club announced on Thursday. The player left Russian giant Zenit St. Petersburg last week via a contract purchase before joining Major League Soccer.
Driussi began his career with River Plate and the Argentine youth national team before traveling abroad to Zenit 2017 for a reported deal of $ 17 million. During his time in Russia, the forward scored 24 goals and 22 assists in 138 games for Zenit.

“Sebastian is ready to be an offensive difference maker in MLS. He has represented Argentina’s youth national team, played in the UEFA Champions League, Copa Libertadores and FIFA Club World Cup in addition to winning 14 trophies so far in his career. This is an impressive CV for all players, even less at the age of 25. He is a world-class competitor, and we are pleased to welcome him to Austin and our club. “

He joins a struggling Austin FC, which sits in last place on the Western Conference table with 13 points in 14 games. The team has only scored ten goals this season, equal to league-low.
“Sebastián is a phenomenal and versatile player who will increase our attack and make us more dangerous in the future,” said head coach Josh Wolff.
“We have had an eye on him for quite some time. We are convinced that Sebastián’s international experience and pedigree will raise the level for our entire group and help us compete for a playoff spot this season.
He is the team’s third and final designated player, along with forward Cecilio Dominguez and midfielder Tomas Pechettino. Despite the quick transfer, the player will not participate in his new MLS page in his upcoming game against Colorado Rapids on Saturday.
