Abdoulaye Cissoko talks to Senegal

Seattle Sounders center-back Abdoulaye Cissoko has revealed that he is in contact with the Senegal national team regarding a conversation.

Cissoko, born in Sevres, France, of Senegalese parents, came up through the local site Les Ulis before joining the 2019 San Diego Zest.

The 21-year-old quickly got a move to Sounders USL member association, Tacoma Defiance and has impressed so much that he became part of the senior set in May.

“I have been pleased with AB’s performance training with the first team during the pre – season and he has received his MLS contract,” said Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer at the time. “His perseverance and competitiveness against our veteran attacking players has shown us that he can handle the challenge. I look forward to seeing how he continues to improve from here. ”

Cissoko has excelled in Sounders’ back line, averaging three tackles per 90 minutes, as well as 2.5 clearances and 1.7 interceptions per 90 minutes.

This has been enough to draw attention to Senegal’s national team, according to the player himself.

“Yes, I have already had discussions with the association,” Cissoko told the French football magazine Onze Mondial (via Sounder at Heart). “Unfortunately with Covid, it was complicated. There were no matches last year. I have to keep working. I have to improve myself. I know that one day I will reach this level. I have to keep working “

Given his humble roots, it would be a great achievement for Cissoko, who is still quite wet behind the ears at senior club level, to get a call to Senegal.

Les Lions de la Téranga are currently 21st in FIFA’s world rankings and although they have never won the Africa Cup of Nations, they were second as late as 2019 when they lost 1-0 to Algeria in the final.

Seattle currently tops the Western Conference table and sits three points ahead of Sporting KC after their 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew this weekend.

Next up for the Sounders is a Rivalry Week game against the Portland Timbers, a side they beat 6-2 just over a week ago.
