former ANR chief Kalev Mutond refuses to

In the DRC, convened after several complaints against him, Kalev Mutond, former deputy head of the National Intelligence Agency (ANR), is reluctant to go to the prosecution. Expected again Tuesday at the judge’s office, he did not surrender and requested that the judge be released from these case files.

as reported from Kinshasa, Patient Ligodi

Kalev Mutond claims special protection as an agent for ANR, but without function. He can not see himself responding to the mistakes made by all ANR agents, he said. For their part, his lawyers condemn what they describe as “operations that can only harm cohesion and national unity”.

Kalev Mutond condemns the ruthlessness of the investigating judge

Kalev Mutond considers himself a victim of a plot and a ruthlessness that is especially hatched by the judge investigating the case files pertaining to him. The former supercop even wrote to the Attorney General at the Court of Cassation to request this judge to be acquitted of the cases that concerned him. The latter has not yet responded.

The ten charges filed by his lawyers concern the same allegations: arbitrary arrests, physical and moral torture, inhuman and degrading treatment, and attempted murder.

Many of these complainants were arrested and detained in ANR dungeons in recent years by Joseph Kabila’s regime. Some of them were active in the demonstrations and movements demanding the resignation of the former president of the republic and the organization of the election within the deadline.
