two arrests after the creation of an alliance

In Guinea, the parties that supported the candidacy of their opponent Cellou Dalein Diallo in the last presidential election signed an agreement yesterday in Conakry to form a political alliance. But in the wake, in the late afternoon, two of their activists were arrested.

An electoral coalition formed for the last presidential election, the National Alliance for Alternation and Democracy (Anad) is changing and therefore becoming a political alliance. Yesterday, at the end of the morning, representatives of twenty parties gathered around the opponent Cellou Dalein Diallo: “We discovered that we were driven by the same determination to contribute to the installation of a peaceful democracy. And a true rule of law in our country. And so we decided us to transform this electoral alliance into a political alliance to meet this very government that therefore wants to sniff out the opposition and silence all dissenting voices. “

Arrests

In the late afternoon, two members were arrested: Bogola Haba, head of communications for Anad, and Thierno Yaya Diallo, president of modern Guinea. The latter was released later that night, but not Bogola Haba.

“The other person made statements that demanded civil disobedience and demanded rebellion,” said Tibou Camara, a government spokesman. We cannot admit in a democracy that we are asking for the removal of a President of the Republic. And I think it’s perfectly normal for the security services to challenge the person concerned to explain it. “

The National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC), mobilized since 2019 against Alpha Condé’s third term, condemns these arrests, which they see as a way to arouse fear among Guineans.
