Macky Sall forms an open and “fighting” government

In Senegal, the expected composition of government for four days was finally revealed this Sunday afternoon.

as reported from Dakar, Thea Ollivier

It is a new government “of openness and unity”, which was unveiled this Sunday in Senegal. A government that wants to be rejuvenated, with the entry of more opposition members “into the dynamics of consensus as a result of the political dialogue” launched after the re-election of Macky Sall in February 2019.

Seven new personalities are entering this “battle for results and results” consisting of 33 ministers and four state secretaries. Among them are members of the opposition such as Oumar Sarr, a former director of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) in Abdoulaye Wade. He was appointed Minister of Mines and Geology.

Idrissa Seck third state personality

But the surprise comes first and foremost from Idrissa Seck’s appointment as president of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council. The leader of the opposition party Rewmi, who came in second in the 2019 presidential election, will then become the third personality of the state. Several heavyweights from the presidential party RPA were not renewed, such as Amadou Ba, former foreign minister, and Aly Ngouille Ndiaye, former interior minister

The big news comes from the establishment of a Ministry of Craft and Transformation of the Informal Sector to respond to national developments in the post-Covid context.19 The new government team will meet next Wednesday in the Council of Ministers.
