former president Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta back in Bamako

Former Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, ousted in mid-August by a military coup, returned to Bamako on Wednesday night after a medical stay in the United Arab Emirates. His followers were there to welcome him.

as reported from Bamako,

The procession arrives at the former home of former President Ibrahim Boubakar Keïta. The vehicles come in … We do not want to see the former head of state in person, but outside his supporters rejoice. “I am very, very happy!” Exclaims a lady who had been waiting there for an hour. The security system in the former president’s house is being strengthened. A young trader also welcomes him: “I welcome him, better health, healing (…) that he remains in his country, as a family leader …”

Arrested by the military on 18 AugustPresident Keita, 75, had resigned a couple of hours later. He was detained by the junta for more than two weeks and was allowed to leave Mali on September 5 to receive treatment in the United Arab Emirates. His departure abroad for treatment was determined after a fall, according to his doctors, on a brief cerebrovascular accident (stroke).

IBK, a politically finished man?

The former president has returned to pretty good health after the treatment he received, so it may not be politically necessary to immediately combine him with the past. One of his supporters came to welcome him and shows us that photos are stuck on a banner: “They are my mother and my children, we all support IBK!”.

At a time when the beginning of the president of the transition Bah N’Daw is quite troublesome, the next actions of Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta will be observed with a magnifying glass.
