ECOWAS mediator Mahamadou Issoufou is visiting Burkina Faso with a very busy schedule. He has planned for several meetings during his stay of less than 48 hours. While waiting to meet the president of Faso, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Henri Damiba, he switched with many other actors.

as reported from Ouagadougou, Yaya Boudani

As soon as he stepped off the plane, Mahamadou Issoufou went to the Prime Minister’s Office for his first working meeting with the Prime Minister, the Ministers of Defense, Security and Humanitarian Aid. A meeting dedicated to the duration of the transition, the timetable and the situation of former President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré and the monitoring and evaluation mechanism for the process.

For much of the evening, the ECOWAS facilitator had several interviews with representatives of political parties and religious leaders.

According to Dr. Ablassé Ouédraogo of the Faso Otherwise Party, the transition has set a goal of securing at least 75% of Burkinabe’s territory so that fair and open elections can be held.

Abdoulaye Soma, president of the former ONA (non-aligned opposition), claims that the former Nigerian president is urging the Burkinabè people to find a compromise with ECOWAS on the timetable to avoid sanctions.

This is also the wish of the member parties of the former presidential majority who asked the facilitator to use his weight so that Cédéma maintains this dynamic in dialogue with the government and all other actors for a way out of the crisis.
