South African comic artist takes new path to wider,

0

Graphic novelist Loyizo Mkize is well known in her native South Africa. But last month, he broke the boundaries of his popularity by signing a contract with the giant American comic book publisher DC Comics.

Mkize is known as the artist who eight years ago created the first local superhero, Kwez, a trendy 19-year-old man living in Gold City, a metropolis with a strong resemblance to Johannesburg.

He is currently working on an animated film with Kwez and his artwork will soon be shown in a gallery in Cape Town.

As more African series emerge, their creators hope the readership will expand to nurture the industry.
